THE PROCESS

Commissioning a portrait is usually a new experience for my clients; it can feel like a leap in the unknown! To assist you, here’s a summary of the process of commissioning a portrait.

Get in touch with any questions, or if you need a quote for special commission requests, I’m always happy to explore the possibilities with you, with absolutely no obligation. When you decide to go ahead, we’ll then have a chat by phone or email about exactly how you want your portrait to appear in terms of size, pose, size, materials, etc. Have a look through the gallery and let me know if any particular portraits are in a style that you prefer. As you can see, I am interested in capturing the personality and am willing to explore various techniques to achieve the best possible results for you.

Getting Started:

Order your deposit. This deposit is applicable of course to your final total. It tells me you are serious and I can begin creatively thinking about your special portrait.

Take multiple photos from different angles to give me a good impression of our subject, and so that we can choose one key image amongst them for me to work from. I’ll need a picture taken by digital  that’s close up and clear that shows their personality.

When you have some pictures you think may be suitable, email them to LBP@LBPArtist.com; we can discuss which image may be our best starting point for your portrait.  Usually it can take quite a number of photos, but know that it is  well worth the effort so that I may get to know our subject.  When we’ve decided which key photo I’ll be starting from, I’ll begin the portrait.

More about how I work

I don’t tend to send ‘progress’ pictures at an early stage because I work very much in a layered way with various mediums ( oil, acrylic, gold, etc) blocking out areas of tone, texture, erasing into them, and then refining, layering them further, until the image finally comes alive as your final portrait.

That being said, I’m always available if you want to check in with me and hear how it’s going, especially if you have a deadline. I’ll keep in regular contact with you if this is the case so you know that your portrait will be completed on time. Communicating is my forte!

Delivery

Once your portrait is completed, I’ll send over an invoice. For delivery, if you’re in the USA, I use UPS. For UK or Canada, I will ship with the better value ( either UPS or DHL)  This is a fully tracked and signed-for service and you will receive your tracking number and when to expect delivery (before mailing it I will check with you which is a good day to receive your portrait) Framed portraits are sent via UPS to guarantee non breakable.

Mat and Framing services available as an add on service.

Reviews

“I wanted to drop you a line as we were so completely and utterly blown away by your remarkable work. What makes it even more incredible is that you’ve never even met the girls, but you so completely captured the two of them. Your painting has pride of place and makes us incredibly happy every time we walk past it. As a former museum curator, I am thoroughly pleased to endorse you."
